MELRAND VILLAGE

Melrand is a very well-preserved archaeological site, it has been known since two hundred years, yet it is poor in material. The research and the various investigations developed enabled a better knowledge concerning its rural medieval identity yet still left many questions unanswered as to the modalities of its occupation and its desertion. The choice of opening it to the public in 1985 incited the teams on the site to prepare a visitor’s circuit in order to preserve the emplacement, allowing it to continue to be studied and enhanced. Experimental archaeology was to prove one of the most successful means developed, through the form of evolutive reconstitutions (buildings, materials, gestures)
